Works carried out

For the renovation of the Castello 1 Tunnel on the A10 motorway in the Genoa–Arenzano section, which is 52 meters long, excavated naturally, and features a two-lane carriageway with a width of 10.10 meters, Crezza was tasked with the construction and installation of metallic armour-plate throughout the length of the tunnel.

A total of 44 lining rings were designed and manufactured, each 1.20 meters wide, composed of 2 pier elements and 1 cap element, for a total of 132 precast components. After the milling, waterproofing, and construction of low walls carried out by the contractor, Crezza installed the components quickly, despite the very limited milling thickness.

The decision to adopt metallic armour-plate instead of the standard solution of precast segments was due to the higher stresses transmitted by the excavation section. Working with its partners, Crezza produced the metal framework in-house so to create a pre-assembled structure for on-site installation, made up of curved metal beams, sheets, and fasteners, and galvanized for greater durability.
